Can a roommate be kicked out if they are paying equally?

A friend of mine told me her roommate kicked her out of her place, but she is paying equal rent. The roommate kicked her out for no justifiable reason (said she thought it was funny and she just didnt like her) My question is is there anything my friend can do about this?
